Crown & Bridge A Two Days Hands On Basics (Course Curriculum) Trainer: Dr.Qaiss B. Abbas AL-Jumaili B.D.S H.D.D. (Prosthodontics) Overview: Bridges and crowns are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants by a dentist or prosthodontist. Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover or "cap" a damaged tooth or cover an implant. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if the patient has missing one or more teeth. They are cemented to natural teeth or implants surrounding the space where the tooth once stood. Benefits of BRIDGES & CROWNS: In addition to strengthening a damaged tooth, bridges and crowns can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, which can result in a bad bite; Bridges and crowns help prevent this from happening. Over all aims of the course: The educational goal of this course is to introduce the importance of fixed prosthodontic field and to introduce the trainees to the basic principles and techniques of fixed prosthodontics. The course covers the terminology, techniques, and basic principles involved with prosthodontic diagnostic procedures: principles of tooth preparations, master cast fabrication, waxing and occlusion, and all-ceramic fabrications techniques. After finishing of the course the Trainees should be able to diagnose a case;provide the suitable treatment plan; clinically prepare a tooth to receive a partial coverage and full coverage veneered crown/bridge; take an impression and bite registration; and fabricate a temporary restoration. The course is designed to enrich and build up the Trainees basic knowledge of fixed prosthodontics and improve their clinical skills through the construction of various fixed restorations.
